When glass is placed above a solar panel to protect it, does it also prevent protons from reaching the panel? Thanks

    Yes. I agree. You probably mean photons. And the answer is yes, but not a great deal. The protective nature of the glass will outweigh the slight loss in efficiency.

    Some of the light that helps make a solar panel work is UV light and glass can absorb visible and well as UV light. Then there is the reflectivity of glass. Any light which is reflected from the surface of the glass, won’t make it through to the solar cell below.
